LANDMARK DECISION FOR MAVISBANK!
The Mavisbank Trust is delighted by the news that the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) has approved a £5.3M grant to support the first phase of the Landmark Trust’s plans to restore Mavisbank House. The grant, along with support from Historic Environment Scotland and Midlothian Council, will kick start a first phase of restoration work to stabilise the ruined shell of the house and provide solutions to the longstanding issues of ownership and access.

Landmark Trust’s Latest Mavisbank Funding Bid - A New Era for Mavisbank?!
A new beginning could be in store for Mavisbank House and its grounds following the recent successful ‘Expression of Interest’ application to the National Heritage Memorial Fund by the Landmark Trust.
The NHMF exists as a funder of last resort in order to help save some of the UK’s greatest treasures but even though it is one of the most important historic houses in Scotland and has an international reputation Mavisbank is also one of its most endangered.

On the 7th of December, Owen Thompson MP brought the long-fought campaign to restore Mavisbank House to Westminster, which was responded to by Nigel Huddleston, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Sport, Heritage and Tourism.

New Mavisbank Community Survey and FAQ
Historic Environment Scotland (HES) are working with The Landmark Trust to develop a new approach to enhancing the landscape and restoring the buildings at Mavisbank, to bring the whole site back to life.
As part of this they are undertaking an online survey of the local community to understand how people use Mavisbank today and what they would like to see in the future, as well as providing a new FAQ.

Mavisbank House shortlisted for Heritage Horizon Awards
The Save Mavisbank project has been invited to submit an application for funding to the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) Heritage Horizon Awards, to compete for a share of £50m funding. Historic Environment Scotland and The Landmark Trust now have until November 2020 to apply for development funding, with funding decisions being made in early 2021.

On Tuesday 1 July Cllr Owen Thompson, Leader of Midlothian Council, formally opened the new path at Mavisbank House, one of Scotland’s most important historic buildings. After many decades there is now an easy way for people to access the grounds at Loanhead in Midlothian.
Community Forum explores plans for Mavisbank
On 5 June The Mavisbank Trust held a Community Open Forum to give nearby residents, community groups and locals businesses the opportunity to explore and discuss plans for Mavisbank House and Policies.
Work on new footpath starts
Improvements are being made to the existing riverside path at Polton, with a new gate access and path created within the Mavisbank grounds linking to the upper section of the south drive and the House.

£500,000 pledged by Scottish Government
Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs, today (15th May) announced a £500,000 grant to help secure the future of one of Scotland’s most famous houses.
Compulsory Purchase Order Proceedings
In March 2012 The Mavisbank Trust will enter into an agreement with both Midlothian Council and Historic Scotland who are both willing to begin CPO proceedings for the House once sufficient project funding is in place.
